On November 1, a Chinese man was detained after beating his 14-year-old daughter in the Serbian capital, according to the Serbian Telegraph news network. Videos widely circulated on social media showed the man kicking and beating his daughter on a tennis court.

The man was subsequently arrested and charged with domestic violence. Local media outlet Mondo reported that the man did not deny his actions but tried to defend himself from the perspective of cultural differences.
He said his daughter refused to continue training on a crucial day, he wanted her back on the pitch, he had no intention of hurting her, respect hierarchy is a Chinese tradition, and he believed he was doing the right thing because [this behavior] is allowed in China.
