On the afternoon of May 5th, the official website of the Education Department of Anhui Province announced the renaming of Hefei College to Hefei University.
In recent years, the renaming of Hefei College as a university has attracted much attention from the education community in Anhui Province.
According to the school’s official website, Hefei University is a full-time public undergraduate institution jointly established by the province and city. Its predecessor was Hefei Union College, founded in 1980, with Mr. Yang Chengzong, founder of New China Radiochemistry and Vice President of China University of Science and Technology, serving as its first president. In 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Hefei College was merged with Hefei Education College and Hefei Normal School to form Hefei College. In 2018, the school entered the first batch of secondary enrollment in Anhui Province and was approved as a master’s degree awarding unit.
