According to court documents, the 52-year-old doctor and others have been engaged in illegal surrogacy activities in Nanning since 2019. She concealed the truth of “twins” from a mother and and secretly sold one of the babies.
On April 14, 2022, the Xingning District People’s Court of Nanning, Guangxi, sentenced the doctor to six years in prison, with a fine of 20,000 yuan and recovered 70,000 yuan of illegal gains. On October 23, 2022, Nanning Intermediate People’s Court rejected an appeal and upheld the original sentence.
