Chinese New Entry & Exit Law takes effect

An exit-entry administration policy took effect on the Chinese mainland on April 1, allowing Chinese residents to handle passports in any city across the country. In the past, an individual’s passport could only be processed in the city where his or her household registration (“hukou”) was made.

Across the city of Hefei, there are a dozen administration service windows to deal with the border entry and exit procedure. It usually just takes less than half an hour for a person to acquire a passport in these windows.
