Chinese officials said on September 19 that border restrictions will be eased to allow some foreign tourists and travelers to enter. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020, China has been one of the countries with the strictest restrictions on tourism and foreign tourists.
Generally speaking, only those with work visas are allowed to enter China. Now, the Chinese government has released a draft tourism management measure to gradually relax the restrictions.
According to Reuters, tour groups will be allowed to enter China and have options for ports of entry. It’s one of the steps China has taken to follow the practices of the rest of the world, which has been slowly but consistently opening its borders to welcome inbound travelers for much of the past six months to a year. Still, U.S. tourists planning to travel to China face uncertainty. Last month, the U.S. government suspended 26 international flights (from the United States to China) by Chinese airlines in retaliation for the Chinese government’s suspension of some flights by U.S. airlines in accordance with epidemic prevention regulations.
