Anhui Hefei FengLe Yuan Stray Animal Rescue Shelter-Connect

The Canadian International School of Hefei (CISH) is a full IB-continuum institution committed to developing life-long learners by preparing them to become active, internationally-minded citizens through the power of inquiry, knowledge, and empathy. As part of its commitment to nurturing its students’ personal and social growth, CISH has established several student-led organizations, including the Zoological Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting animal education and conservation.

The Zoological Society is run by students in grades 10-12 and faculty members who share a passion for animal welfare and are committed to making a positive impact on the community. The society’s primary mission is to promote conservation awareness through an interactive educational environment, where students get up close with some of nature’s most amazing animals. In their largest venture yet, the society has begun an outreach programwith the Hefei Fengle Garden Park Animal Rescue, a local rescue shelter providing temporary housing and care for stray animals.

The Hefei Fengle Garden Park is home to nearly 400 dogs and cats that are in need of vaccinations and neutering surgeries to improve their quality of life and increase their chances of being adopted. The Zoological Society recognizes the need for funding and resources to provide medical care and improve the living conditions of the shelter’s animals, and to this end has started to raise funds for the future needs of the shelter.

The Zoological Society’s commitment to animal welfare and conservation reflects CISH’s mission statement, which emphasizes the importance of preparing students to become active, internationally-minded citizens. By providing opportunities for students to engage with the community and make a positive impact on the lives of animals, the Zoological Society is fulfilling CISH’s mission and fostering the development of its students as empathetic and socially responsible individuals.
