3.1 Magnitude Earthquake this Morning in Hefei

On May 12th, at 2:32 AM, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck Feidong County, Hefei City, Anhui Province, China.

The quake’s epicenter was located at a depth of 15 kilometers, with coordinates approximately 31.99 degrees north latitude and 117.60 degrees east longitude. The average elevation within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter is about 35 meters above sea level.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, within a 200-kilometer radius around the epicenter, there have been 10 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or higher in the past five years. The largest among them occurred on February 24th, 2024, with a magnitude of 3.5, also in Feidong County, Hefei City, Anhui Province.
